Choose the right physio/ osteo
When you need a physio or osteo, it can be difficult knowing who to choose for your particular needs. Choosing someone that is well qualified, experienced and reputable will involve some research. But, it can be difficult to know where to start.
Here we look at some key things to consider when making your choice.
Physio Registration
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) is the professional, educational and trade union body for physiotherapists in the United Kingdom. Members of the CSP follow strict rules of professional conduct and standards of physiotherapy practice. Similarly, every osteopath is registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).
Everyone at Physio Remedies is a fully registered therapist. That also includes years of experience in practice - some both in the UK and abroad. You can check the team’s full bios in the team page here - https://physioremedies.com/team.
We always recommend before any treatment, that you:
Check your therapist is registered
Check their experience - and check their patient reviews
Make sure you understand the diagnosis and treatment plan
If in doubt - ask!
Qualifications
All Physiotherapists qualifying since 1994 will have undertaken a University degree course. However, some go further and complete a postgraduate course, showing their extra commitment in their chosen field.
Osteopathy requires at least four years of full-time training that leads to a bachelor's degree in osteopathy or a masters degree. Kieran has a Masters in Osteopathy, gained in 2012.
Physio Charlie recently completed his MSc in Sport Medicine, Exercise and Health at UCL. This demonstrates his commitment to further develop himself in treating different sporting injuries and in post-injury rehab.
Naomi, Sian and Paul also have Master’s degrees in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy - Sian also has a PhD from Kings College. Sarah has a post grad in Sports Physiotherapy, which she achieved in 1998.
Sports massage therapist, Emily, recently gained an MSc Applied Biomechanics in Sports and Exercise at St Mary’s University Twickenham.
More About Our Team
Of course it is also a good idea to get to know your physio face to face. How well you get on will make a big difference to how you respond to your treatments. Here are a few updates about our team - to help you break the ice!
Osteo Kieran recently returned to competitive Olympic weightlifting and is busy training for next year's British Championships.
Earlier this year, Physio Naomi completed 'Ride London', a 100 mile cycling event around the Essex countryside.
“I was hoping to do the Irish Chase the Sun this year but it didn't work out...maybe next year. There's a group of us thinking about cycling London to Paris,” Naomi adds.
Charlie had an international amateur boxer career before training to be a physio. He spent time working in Singapore and has recently enjoyed working with fencers at the Lansdowne Club.
Now in the triathlon ‘off season’, Emily is fencing at the Lansdowne and has made a return to the Lacrosse field.
